Waste water tends to go one of a few places. If it’s flushed down your toilet, down your drain, through your shower or one of your sinks, it’s likely headed to a treatment facility. What about the water you use to water your lawn, wash your car, clean off your driveway?
One of the things I learned when I moved to Lakeland, Florida is the nature of water runoff. The saying you see on every sign at the end of every street here is “All water drains to lake”. Now consider what’s in this water. If you’re washing your car, you likely have detergents and wax and dirt and a variety of cleaners mixed with the water. If it’s from your yard or your driveway, consider all of the potential automotive chemicals that are now draining to a lake. This is a big problem for lake pollution levels!
We need to protect our wetlands. This poster reminds us of ways we can minimize our impact on our precious water supply.
